Music Website Template Customization: Polished Portside
Posted by Melanie Kealey on Jan 12, 2017 in: Beautiful Band Website Templates
As a musician, you’re looking for a website theme that’s easy to customize, but also very unique. With its side navigation, music up front, and simple, but beautiful styling, Portside is a template that will help you stand out from the crowd!
Like any theme, you can change it up at any time, without your content being affected. So let’s take a look at some of the ways you can customize the design of the Portside template to showcase your music and yourself as an artist.
The sidebar
An attention grabbing aspect of this template is the vertical navigation, located on the left hand side of your website content.
We’ve created several preset color options if you want to pick one and go. You can also choose any color you’d like for this sidebar, making it a sleek black and white band website, or a muted color match to your header image.
You can place a sitewide music player on this sidebar, as well as your social media links under your menu. Keeping this information in one place as your visitor navigates will help it to stay accessible while allowing your content to be front and center.
Your social media icons can also be adjusted to match: change their color, background color, and hover color. Make them bigger to stretch down the sidebar, or smaller to sit side by side.
An image is worth a thousand words
Do you have the perfect image that sums up your music and personality at a glance? Add it to the large image space on the landing page. If your image doesn’t fit quite right - think landscape rather than square, it’s easy to adjust the header area height.
You can also make sure the scroll down arrow is enabled to let your fans know there is more content below the fold.

More imagery, more movement
Want a bit more motion to keep that Homepage exciting? The Portside theme is perfect for a slideshow of images, or a video header.
You can now also add a call-to-action over your main image, slideshow, or video. So set it up to entice people to click and watch that new video, or buy that new album!
Loving the logo
Choose a funky font, or upload your own image as a logo to sit at the top left of your website. A little pop of interest there gives the eye a natural place to go, informing your fans of your band name (and that they are at the right place to find out about you!)
For a bit of consistency, clicking on the logo from any page will reload your Home page.

Make the menu work
Next, the eye will travel down the menu, so try to coordinate your fonts and colors together with your logo. In addition to making the background color of this menu sidebar any color you want, you can adjust the menu font, color, and hover color.
Plus, when your fans move their cursor down over the menu items, a smooth animation will appear as the word changes color. Clicking on a page will cause this line to stay in place. These little things add up to a great website that appears organized and well put together.
This template also works really well to customize a bilingual website. Add your pages in both languages, and they’ll be listed out on the left hand side of every page.
Let your content do the talking
The inner pages of this template are simple and sleek, without a header image. With a lot of space on the right hand side for content, make use of text and images to tie things together. With the simple background, Portside is perfectly suited to showcase your songs, images, and artist bio.
The sign up and play buttons are fully adjustable - you can make them square or an outline, and match their color perfectly to your new album colors. Or, make your text and buttons pop out against a simple background to draw attention to your music.
Create column layouts with full width features and half page features, mixing things up to flow nicely down the page. Make use of all that space to create a great EPK page with crisp feature titles, clear text, and images.

Not sure what kind of content to add to your pages? Add a page and choose a preset option for some ideas. Add your content next, and style the colors.
The Portside theme is a flexible, mobile-ready template that allows you to adjust all of the colors and fonts to make something that works just right for your band.
Customize your website by making use of a great logo, a cascading menu, and an eye-catching image. Then add all of your content to the inner pages, creating a cohesive place on the web for your music, merch, and more.
