Bandzoogle in 2022: Direct-to-fan sales for musicians
Posted by Stacey Bedford on Dec 20, 2022 in: Bandzoogle News
Over the last couple years we have really seen the digital landscape shift towards musicians accessing a wider range of fans than ever before. This might mean social media or streaming or online shows across the world.
Every year we create brand new tools and update our huge range of existing features to allow you as musicians to better engage with your fans. And this year more than ever, we wanted to be sure you could reach those new listeners in a way that’s not only smart, but also allows you to grow your fanbase in a sustainable way.
This means creating websites with more options to market and monetize your music, and to measure how your campaigns are performing. As musicians in 2022, promoting your music is a real part of an indie artists’ business, and with these tools we hope your lives are made that much easier.
Here’s a look back at 2022:
Landing pages to market your music
As musicians grow more attuned to the business side of the music industry, we wanted to offer more options to drive traffic and create specific music marketing campaigns. Landing pages helped solve that need, with content templates to guide you into creating, tracking, and measuring funnels for your fans. Landing pages for musicians can be used to sell a specific product, service, show, or to build your mailing list (among other things); and understand the results of those initiatives using data.
Sharing your music with Smart Links
When you sell your new music, you'll want to be sure it’s easy for fans to access. The Smart Links feature allows you to organize streaming and social services in a stacked layout. Your fans can simply click on a platform to check out your music in their preferred way. With your fans landing on your own professional website, Smart Links truly are a great way to engage your fans within your own branding and context. Plus, there’s a ‘buy’ button included to help you sell more music. They’ll look great out of the box, but they’re also fully customizable, just like our websites.
Page level data
In order to see how successful your Landing pages are, we introduced a more granular level of analytics in the Reports tab. With data available per page, you can see specific inbound and outbound clicks to links and services. We then added mailing list sign ups along with downloads and plays so you can measure successful conversion data.
Upsells
Musicians have steadily been using their website as a successful tool to provide an online merch table and this is only growing. To meet a popular request from our members, we implemented the option to upsell items in your merch store. Suggesting similar items to fans shopping in your store is a great way to lead to more sales, pointing out items that go together.

Updated shopping cart
To make online shopping more seamless both for yourself and your customers, we introduced a few e-commerce updates in 2022. One of these was a new shopping cart, sliding in on the side of your website for a more intuitive, more mobile-friendly experience.
Other e-commerce updates
Following this, we added search functionality to the exportable transactions in your store. This was in response to members wanting to more easily find orders for tax time, track sales from specific date ranges, and check which products still needed to be shipped out. Plus, members with multiple stores can name them separately now, adding more organization to your Selling tools dashboard - a useful option for all musicians selling merch, but also for record labels managing multiple artists.
PayPal for fan subscriptions
Creating content via fan subscriptions continues to be a steady source of income plus a great connection tool between musicians and fans. Many Bandzoogle members asked about adding PayPal as a payment option here to open up this fan experience to a wider audience, and in 2022 we were able to do that.
Flexible mobile logo controls
In the interest of keeping band websites as modern and current as possible, we revamped the logo option and added more controls. Now you can adjust your logo size per device, giving your visitors the best experience possible whether they visit from a tablet, mobile phone, or computer screen.
Updated website templates
In 2022 we released several templates to help you give your website a refreshed look. Following current web design trends of open spaces, sections, and bold color choices, we offered three new templates including Receiver, Tone, and Honey. We also created a selection of staff picks, with our designers choosing their favorite themes. Plus, there is now a Bold category and a Minimal category - so if you plan to update your music website for the new year, take a look through those updated choices.
We have some exciting design updates for both templates and features planned for 2023. We’ve been working on those in the background, and can’t wait to roll out some more flexible choices for musicians.
As this year wraps up, we’re happier than ever to see musicians flourishing in their ability to create fan connections, and better use their website’s tools to monetize and make smart business choices which will lead to continuous growth, both creatively and financially.
