4 simple ways to give your website a makeover
Posted by Melanie Kealey on Jan 05, 2017 in: Website Tips
It’s a new year and the perfect time for an updated website! Whether you’re re-branding, dropping an album this year, or just want to make a new start - it’s easy to give your website a fresh look. Just as your music evolves, so should the look and feel of your website.
So how do you take your website, full to the brim with content, images, and music, from so-so to whoa!? Let’s dive right in!
1. Change up your template
One of the easiest ways to give your website a makeover is to change the theme. Sounds scary, yes - but don’t worry, your content and layout will stay the same! You’re just giving it a new look to take into the new year.
If you love your website but want to make it more modern, updating your template can do just that! Pick from one of our mobile-responsive templates that are both simple and stylish at once.
Not sure where to begin? The Prismatic template works for a variety of artists of all musical genres. It’s a nice choice for a band with a header image that is on brand, professionally shot, and conveys your sound.

If you want to let people know about your upcoming album, show, or latest video, try our Encore theme. Encore features an attention-grabbing call-to-action header on your Homepage, which sits nicely over your background image or video, and helps emphasize an important point to your fans.
You can select a new template, customize the colors and fonts, and then save it for later to be sure it looks just right before launching it. And remember, once you change your template, you can always switch it back, your content won’t be affected.
Be sure to also check out these other new themes:
Portside
Portside includes vertical navigation, 6 variations, and a brand new sitewide music player style.
Meridian
Meridian features a diamond shaped animation behind the main title, lots of color filter options, and 3 variations to choose from.
Eclipse
Eclipse showcases a smooth animated effect for your band name, styled featured backgrounds, and photo filters for your main image.
2. Update your header image
One thing to take into consideration when updating your website is your image - your main image. It should express your music, and show a snapshot of who you are in a glance. Changing your header image can instantly transform your website.
Try out different color filters over your header image for a vibrant pop, or a muted grey, black, or blue overlay. You can use a different image on every page, and adjust the height of the header image within our newer themes.
You can also add up to 5 images to create a slideshow - perfect to emphasize your imagery without being too distracting from your music.
Add a video header
If you want to try out something totally different, why not add a video header to your website? A quick clip of your band in motion can give your website a new look without much fuss.
3. Customize your style
Take your website to the next level by customizing the look of your buttons! Instead of a solid button, try an outline that lets your background show through. This will give your website a modernized look without changing much in the way of content.
Love the full color option? That’s ok too - choose any color you’d like to match your background. In the Theme Designer, the color picker lists complimentary colors that you can choose from (or pick your own!).
4. Add an EPK using Preset Pages
There’s no time like the start of a new year to finally create an electronic press kit page! An EPK is the perfect one-stop shop to send out to festivals and venues as you plan out your year’s activities.
We’ve made this easier than ever before with preset pages! Just add a new page and choose the EPK page template from the options. We’ve preloaded the page with suggested features that make up a complete press kit. You can add or remove features, or rearrange your images, quotes, and text to customize it.
Giving your website a makeover sounds daunting, but try out one, or all four, of these options to take your band into 2017!
Remember to share your updated website on your social media channels as a way to draw in your fans for another look. It’ll encourage them to check out your new music, sign up to your mailing list, and more!
